Momma Spriggs – Carlisle

On Tuesday April 17, 2012 we ventured into Carlisle and stopped by the new restaurant at 160 York Road…Momma Spriggs. We had been here before, when it operated under a different name and owner and had not heard about this new venture. We knew the building was nice inside, but the new owners had remodeled the interior again, and it is great. Possibly the nicest interior of any place we have visited as breakfast bloggers. We were seated right away and our waitress took excellent care of us throughout our meal. We ordered our benchmark breakfast, 2 eggs, home fries, toast and sausage, which arrived at our table in about five minutes. Wow, perfect eggs, great, chunky home fries that were perfectly prepared and real sausage, not microwave mini links. The toast was thick and delicious. We talked with our waitress and the manager for awhile, gave them our breakfast blog business card and they surprised us with a sample of their sweet cream pancakes, which were just out of this world. This may have been our defining moment in breakfast blogging, as this was the best breakfast we have ever had in over 50 local places.

Momma Spriggs uses all fresh, natural ingredients and homemade recipes to produce some of the best meals you can find anywhere in our area. They’re open Tuesday thru Saturday from 7AM to 9PM and Sundays from 7AM to 2PM, closed on Mondays. Breakfasts run from $5 to $8, Lunch runs $6 to $10 and suppers are from $7 to $18 & BYOB. Our visit was fantastic and we will definitely be back again!

The Pretzel Spot Cafe – Carlisle

On Tuesday April 10, 2012 we stopped by to visit The Pretzel Spot Cafe, located at 330 East Louther Street in Carlisle. They are located in a beautifully restored turn of the century building that used to be the Carlisle Ribbon Mill. From the exterior we weren’t too sure what to expect, but this turned out to be a really nice place. We ordered at the counter and when the food is done you pick it up at the counter and then eat in their dining area,

We ordered our regular 2 eggs, home fries and sausage and bacon. It took less than 10 minutes and our food was up. In the meantime we admired the beautiful interior, complete with some nice photographs hanging on the walls. There was a steady stream of customers coming in as we ate.

Our breakfast was really good. The eggs were perfect and the home fries were sliced in large chunks. The sausage was good. The bacon could have been a little more crispy. One thing we noticed was that almost everyone that came in was ordering a breakfast pretzel log stuffed with eggs and sides. By ordering our traditional breakfast we may have missed the best meal on the menu. They are open daily for breakfast and lunch from 8;00 until 4PM. They have regular breakfasts, breakfast wraps and breakfast pretzel logs. At lunch they serve wraps, salads and sandwiches, as well as lunch pretzel logs. And of course, they sell pretzels,,,apparently delicious hand made pretzels. We are going to come back and sample more of their menu. This place was a real treat and we’d suggest you stop by and visit. Note: They also do catering and have a private dining area for small groups.

Colony House – Mechanicsburg

National Hotel circa 1925

On Tuesday April 3, 2012 we paid a visit to the Colony House Restaurant at 125 West Main Street in Mechanicsburg. We were long overdue for a meal at this historic location, which was once the National Hotel that dated back to the 19th century. In fact, from their web site we learned that the original business on the property was an 1810 tavern called “Sign of the Mermaid”. We were seated quickly and the they were very busy, nearly every booth was taken. We placed our usual orders of eggs, home fries, ham and sausage links and settled in. The Colony House has a nice dining area and are open from 7AM to 8PM Monday and Tuesday, 7AM – 9PM Wednesday thru Saturday  and 7AM to 2PM on Sunday. Our meals were out in about 9 minutes and we had a very good, filling breakfast. We asked about the wheat bread, it was very good, and we were told it comes from Terranetti’s Bakery in Mechanicsburg. We were pleased and will be back to visit again. For more information on the Colony House visit their web site at:

Baker’s Diner _ Dillsburg

On Tuesday March 27, 2012 we decided to travel to Dillsburg to visit Baker’s Diner at 515 North US Hwy 15. Baker’s has long been a favorite place to eat, and since their remodeling a few years back they still have one of the nicest interiors of any restaurant that we visit. It wasn’t too busy when we arrived and our waitress, April, was right there to take our drink and food order. Craig and I decided to take advantage of their great special, which was 2 eggs, home fries and meat for $3.49. Of course, he ordered the sausage and I ordered the ham. Kathy decided to go for a Dutch Omelet, which had cheese, onions and potatoes in it. As usual the food came out quickly and was really good. April kept the coffee flowing and we had a very satisfying meal for three for just $17, not bad! We love Baker’s Diner and we’ll be back.

Tracks End Restaurant – Mechanicsburg

On Tuesday March 20, 2012 we stopped in at the Tracks End Restaurant in Mechanicsburg for a quick breakfast. They had a few customers already eating and our waitress was right there with coffee and taking our order. We got the usual eggs, home fries and sausage links, which was ready in about 6 minutes. Very good breakfast, and we must note that this is the only place we’ve eaten where the home fries came on a separate plate and it was more than we could eat. Nice service, quiet place, not fancy, but they fed us well for about $6 each. We’d stop back again!
