Caffe 101 – Boiling Springs

September 25, 2012 – It was sunny this morning, a bit chilly at first, but getting warmer as the sun rose higher in the sky. We took a nice drive in the countryside, admiring the changing leaves and shocks of standing corn drying in the fields. We passed hikers walking along the road near the Appalachian trail and parked by the lake in Boiling Springs. We decided to eat at Caffe 101 and dined al fresco, soaking up the sunshine while ducks and geese  swam on the lake. 2 eggs, home fries, sausage and baked blueberry oatmeal made for a very good breakfast. We had the outdoor dining area to ourselves and sat at our table enjoying the sights. Goodbye to summer, hello to autumn.

Momma Spriggs – Carlisle

Today, Sept 18, 2012 we drove to Carlisle to enjoy a good breakfast at Momma Spriggs, and, oh it was good! It was raining this morning and not many people were out, so aside from a few tables of customers we had the place to ourselves. The first thing we noticed is that they now have two TV sets at the counter and visible to the dining area, although there was no sound. We ordered their Great Start, which is basically two eggs, potatoes, toast and your choice of meat. The ham was a nice large slice, the sausage was also large and looked great. The eggs were ok, we have seen bigger, and the potatoes were very good, they were cubed instead of sliced. We ordered our potatoes browned and well done and these came out perfect. The toast was pretty impressive, it was nice and thick, almost like Texas toast, and very filling. We had a nice breakfast and stayed almost an hour (comfy seats). Our total for two breakfasts with 1 coffee and 1 pepsi was $18.95.

The Chow Down Restaurant – Rossville

On Tuesday Sept 11, 2012 we drove down to Rossville to visit the Chow Down Restaurant. Woohoo, they were busy, the parking lot was nearly full. They had some tables open though, and we settled in for a really good breakfast at a great price. We saw a few people we knew, had a good waitress and overall were very happy with our visit. Eggs, home fries and toast were really good. The sausage links were a little different and sliced down the middle so they could be cooked flat. The casing was peeling off the sausage and I had to put ketchup on mine to mask improve the flavor. We also asked for well cooked (browned) home fries, but only a few on top were browned, the rest were pretty much white.

Marysville Diner

On Tuesday September 4, 2012 we decided to visit the Marysville Diner. The breakfast there is very good, filling and a good value. We had eggs, home fries and sausage, which was on special. Really nice waitress, good service, and the food came out quickly and just the way we ordered it. Hats off to the Marysville Diner, we were very happy!

Bakers Diner – Dillsburg

On Tuesday August 28, 2012 we stopped by Baker’s Diner in Dillsburg for a nice breakfast. Our old reliable “2 eggs, home fries and meat” was on special for $3.49. We had a little bit of confusion in the order, but once it was straightened out everything was very good. Bakers is working on their addition and it looks like they might have it open by Christmas.
Today was a special breakfast celebrating 15,000 views of this blog. Also, this post is our 135th. Thank you to all of our readers and followers.

 

 

Sunlight Diner – Mechanicsburg

On Tuesday August 21, 2012 we stopped by the Sunlight Diner (formerly the 50’s Diner) in Mechanicsburg. As usual they were pretty busy, but we had really good service and a good breakfast. This place is a favorite.

Middlesex Diner – Carlisle

On Tuesday August 14, 2012 we had breakfast at the Middlesex Diner in Carlisle. Everything was good, but they did seat us in the big room next to a long, long table that was being filled with a large group. It got very noisy and crowded. There did seem to be lots of room in the regular dining area, why would they seat us right next to a large group?

Colony House – Mechanicsburg

On Tuesday August 7, 2012 we had a nice breakfast at the Colony House in Mechanicsburg. Everything was very good!

Diener’s – Mechanicsburg

On Tuesday July 31, 2012 we stopped at Diener’s in Mechanicsburg. It was a cool, cloudy morning, unlike the hot weather we have been having, so we decided to try their outdoor dining area. We were guided out the back door into a nice fenced area with several different outdoor tables. We had the whole back area to ourselves, it was pretty nice!

We ordered our usual breakfasts, which arrived in less than 10 minutes. Nearly perfect eggs, hash brown (shredded) home fries, one sausage link (but it was good) and as always, really thick slices of toast. Our waitress came back several times to refill the coffee and check on us. It was a very enjoyable meal in a cozy little spot, almost like having our own restaurant and staff. Thumbs up to Diener’s, one of the best breakfasts on the West Shore.
